Vintage Design
A delicate kidney-shaped salon table with fine cube marquetry, so-called “Table à Rognon”, made in France around 1765: a kidney-shaped table body (“rognon”) standing on four slender, curved legs with a small central drawer; in the lower area between the legs, a likewise kidney-shaped intermediate shelf. While the final table top and the intermediate shelf are decorated with an illusionistic cube marquetry, the frame of the little table shows a fine herringbone marquetry. The upper ends of the legs, embedded in the table frame, are accented by small decorative rosettes of gilt bronze. In the years between 1750 and 1800, Parisian ebenists invented a variety of dainty small multifunctional salon tables of various shapes and decorations, which were used especially in the boudoirs of court ladies and French nobility and still enjoy great popularity due to their daintiness and charming design. Condition: very good, min. signs of age and use, min. abrasion
