Dated to the 1920s during China’s Republic Period, this petite vase is decorated in a style known as Canton enamel, so named for the long-standing industry of export enamels based in the port city of Guangzhou, formerly Canton. Formed of copper and hand-applied overglaze enamel, the charming vase is intricately decorated in the pastel palette of famille verte porcelain.
Round cartouches on either side of the body depict the flowers of the four seasons, including peonies for spring, lotus for summer, chrysanthemums for autumn, and plum blossoms for winter. The floral vignettes are surrounded by botanical scrollwork and contrasted by a cool white field. Small chip to one side.
