Pair of Charles X Candelabra Engraved with Napoleonic Symbols and Fountainebleau

Pair of Charles X ormolu and patinated bronze candelabra with five arms and separate bobesches. The base of each candelabra is inscribed with an “N” for Napoleon, the Napoleonic eagle, and “Fontainebleau.” The Chateau de Fontainebleau was restored by Napoleon, and was the site of his famous farewell speech to his faithful remaining officers after abdicating the throne in 1814. (“Soldiers of my Old Guard: I bid you farewell. For twenty years I have constantly accompanied you on the road to honor and glory. . . . “) The candelabra date from the Charles X period (circa 1820s), and probably were created as a tribute to Napoleon after his death in 1821. Pair of French Charles X Period Ormolu and Painted Bronze Four-Light Candelabra

A pair of French Charles X period ormolu and painted bronze four-light candelabra from the early 19th century with sculptures of the Olympian gods Apollo, god of music and Diana, goddess of hunting. Modeled after the famous antique Roman sculptures Apollo Belvedere and Diana of Versailles, they were considered the highest ideal of art during the 19th century. Apollo moves majestically forward, a bow in the right hand, his cloak disclosing a radiant a youthful physique, head turned towards Diana, her tunic clinging closely to her body, a crescent moon adorning her hair. Both are holding a quiver above their heads with a central urn-shaped candle nozzle above a lyre, an oak-leaf ring below issuing three scrolled foliate candle arms with dog mask finials and cast candle nozzle echoing the hunting activities of the twin gods. Resting on a high chased cylindrical pedestal with square plinth bases, this pair of early 19th century French ormolu and painted bronze four-light candelabra, with its classical theme and superbly detailed decoration characteristic of Charles X style, will bring utter refinement to any classical home.

19th century Charles ‘X’ French Gilt and Patinated Bronze Candlestick, Pair

Features include superb detail with gold gilding and bronze patination. They are intricately sculpted with fanciful designs, acanthus leaves and grape clusters with three claw feet resting on a tri-shaped plinth. Two neoclassical early 19th century malachite and gilt bronze candelabra

This superb pair of Charles X period candelabra is designed in the distinct Neoclassical style, crafted from ormolu and a later malachite veneer. Each candelabrum features three scrolled ormolu feet, which support a circular malachite base. From this base springs the stem of the candelabrum, moulded in the shape of nude putti who hold up a malachite shaft. The top of each candelabrum features five light branches, formed as ormolu oil lamps. These are also draped with gilt bronze chains and surmounted with an ornate finial.

A striking pair of French 19th century Charles X st. patinated bronze and ormolu candlesticks. Each candlestick is raised by a triangular base with concave sides and handsome paw feet amidst acanthus leaves. Above, socle shaped supports and wrap around foliate and seashell bands, stand the charming personages. To the right is a charming and most elegant maiden dressed in a flowing gown with flowers in her hair. To the left is a handsome gentleman dressed in period attire. Each are seemingly holding up scrolled rinceau shaped supports which lead up to the foliate and seashell candle cups and delicately fluted bobeches.
