Dorothy Churchill-Johnson (American, 1942-2023), an untitled, pen and ink drawing with watercolor. Comprised of a number of realistic distressed tiles depicting a knight in armor on horseback, a ship at sea, and a heraldic lion. The deteriorating tiles look to be set into a stone surface and having accumulated a variety of detritus in the crevices and cracks. The work is signed and dated 1992 at the upper right. It is matted and framed under plexiglass.

Churchill-Johnson was influenced by and respected many styles. She carved out a style of painting that is challenging to label or artistically to match. She verged on the hyper-reality of surrealism, pop art, and a type of abstraction of the real world that is still recognizable to its original make-up. Her unique approach was, and still is, of significant interest to many corporations, hotels, institutions, and individual collectors who acquired her work.
