This Marc Chagall very rare vintage 9162 ” Nice, Soleil Fleurs ” Mourlot fine art lithograph print large iconic custom framed landmark French travel poster is an incredibly special and unique piece to add to your collection.

The lithograph print poster is published by The Ministere Des Travaux Publics, Des Transports Et Du Tourisme, printed in France3 in 1962 in an unnumbered limited edition of 5000 by Mourlot Imp. Paris. Published by and for The French Government to promote tourism in Nice and The Cote D’Azur internationally. It features an iconic artwork image created by Chagall in 1962 titled ” Nice, Soleil Fleurs – La Baie Des Anges ” ( Nice, Sun Flowers – The Bay of Angels ).

The Cote D’Azur and Nice also known as The French Rivera, is located on The Mediterranean coastline in The South of France. The warm climate and vivid colors attracted many famous artists during the first half of The 20th Century including Marc Chagall, Pablo Picasso, and Henri Matisse. All of whom left a strong mark there, both culturally and emotionally.

Marc Chagall ( 1887 – 1985 ) The French Russian born Jewish Expressionist artist is known for both his sense of color and fluid aesthetic, His early Modernist artworks explore concepts and themes of spirituality, angelic influences, and the Jewish cultural life human experience. Chagall is commonly regarded as the quintessential preeminent Jewish artist of The 20th Century. His mastery of the expressive language of color, and creations in nearly every medium and form of art won him recognition as a leading figure in world Modern Art. Artworks by Chagall are included in the collections of many of the world’s most prestigious museums.

The venerable famous printing house of Imprimerie Mourlot Paris was founded in 1852 by the Mourlot family. It is known worldwide for its fine art lithography printing, and one of their most important contributions was to be the art poster. Mourlot became the place where posters were prepared as works of art in their own right.

This landmark fine art lithograph poster is one of the most iconic and desirable of the collaboration and long lasting partnership between the artist Chagall and Atelier Mourlot who together would created many important art posters. An example of this same poster is held in the permanent archive collection of many museums worldwide including The Museum of Modern Art, New York and The Musee National Marc Chagall, Nice.

Beginning in the 1930’s Fernand Mourlot invited the major master artists of the time into the lithography studio to learn the medium of printing together. Encouraging the artists to work directly on the lithograph plates top create original prints and posters in limited editions. The results of this artistic collaboration between master artists and Mourlot became internationally known for their originality, beauty, and exquisite craftsmanship.

Chagall had a strong attachment to the city of Nice, visiting there for the first time in 1926. The painter’s eye was irresistibly attracted to the azure blue of the sea, brightness of the sky, and intense flamboyant vegetation. The rare out of print large format framed lithograph print French travel poster measures 26 3/8″ W X 39 1/4″ H X 1 3/8″ D. It is custom framed with UV protective plexiglass in a Contemporary Modern recessed beveled detailed matte eggshell finish navy marine blue wood frame molding, with an attached hanging wire on the reverse back side for easy wall installation.

It is in excellent ” like new ” condition. The poster print is in excellent ” like new ” clean vintage condition consistent with age, very light signs of handling, and very light minor surface wear in the lower margin text area. It is brand newly custom framed and has never been displayed. Please see photos for condition reference. It is now being offered here for an excellent price.

This antique poster reflects the spirited image of mermaids dancing in the sparkling waters of the Source Brault Company. This image is not often found in this original poster printed in 1938. A spirited and inviting image with wonderful colors. The product advertised is a sparkling lemon flavored beverage. It remains one of the iconic images in the vintage poster world 80 years after its creation.

Philippe Henri Noyer (1917 – 1985) was born on June 28, 1917 in Lyons, France. After a traditional education at the elite Ecole des Roches, Noyer enrolled in the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Lyon. Next he moved to Paris, where he worked in decorative arts and advertising.

Painter, poster designer, illustrator and teacher. Studied at Croydon School of Art and St Martin’s School of Art. He was a member of the Wapping Group of Artists, of which for a time he was vice-president; Croydon Art Society; Langham Sketch Club; and St Ives Society of Artists. Exhibited RA, ROI, RI, RWA and RBA. Bradford City Art Gallery and Sunderland Museum and Art Gallery hold his work, which is characterised by a breezy freshness, crisp, with well-controlled colour. Lived at Polperro, Cornwall, an area he often painted.
