Intricately hand carved from a single block of richly variegated stone, this incredibly detailed and elaborate, Chinese sculpture is a true work of art. It features a dragon on a carved cloud like base and is very meticulously crafted, from the dragon’s scales, to its’ teeth and claws. The rich mottled stone enhance the sculpture, while the carving showcases the true mark of a lapidary artists’ skill. This sculpture will not disappoint! Sculpture fits on a custom made rosewood base with silver wire inlay. According to the Chinese Zodiac, 2024 is the Year of the Dragon. In Chinese culture, the dragon is a symbol of power, strength, and good luck.

Valued for its rarity and lustrous appearance, jade (yù) has long been a symbol of excellence, longevity and purity of virtue. Worn as jewelry or as a protective charm, the stone was believed to imbue a person with a clear mind and pure spirit, and to guard against evil spirits and illness.

This lovely jadeite pendant is shaped from a variety known as moss-in-snow, named for the spots of bright green color contrasting the surrounding pale field. The pendant is carved with a reticulated design of two buddha’s hand citrons flanking a bat with outstretched wings. A popular motif in Chinese art, this combination conveys a wish for blessings, longevity and happiness.

Chinese Carved Lapis Lazuli Duck and Lotus Flower Figure

A well carved Chinese Lapis Lazuli figure of a duck with a Lotus flower probably dating from the latter 19th or early 20th century. The figure is hand carved and well detailed with the duck in a crouched (possibly swimming) position and holding a Lotus flower stem with a large leaf in its beak. The duck and flower have carved detail and features and combines the deep blue with the grey elements of the stone. The duck is not signed however has an old collectors paper label attached to the base.

In good condition with wear associated with age and use.
