A very handsome Chinese lacquered trunk or coffee table with exceptional heavily embellished hand-hammered hardware — iron handles, hinges, corner plates and lock which uses a cross piece or lock (not included) to secure the flat bolt. The chest is 19th century while the stand is 20th century. Great coffee table and storage unit or use as blanket chest or bench at the foot of a bed.

Large carved Oriental Camphor wood chest

This carved chest is made from Camphor Wood, for those of you who do not know camphor wood it is similar to Mahogany it is a hard wood which lends itself very well to carving.
However the main reason for using camphor wood is its fragrance it smells a bit like Eucalyptus and this most attractive of smells repels moths hence its common use in the best quality Blanket Boxes
The carving of this piece is quite delightful depicting many ships, pagodas, Warriors and Dragons
The chest is carved on every side, it has a large brass clasp on the front and includes the origin lock and key

This hardwood chest has brass hardware, including handles. It has a brass plaque on the top that has been inscribed with the owner’s name, R. B. Van Cleave, but this one has not been used. This chest could be easily converted to a coffee table by adding a tempered glass top. Historically the Van Cleve name is well known.

A beautiful, antique (mid 1800s) Chinese red leather and brass over camphor wood export trade trunk offers ample storage and could be used as a coffee table or accent piece. It is a gorgeous, rich red color with cream colored floral painted accents and brass tack decoration.

This piece is structurally very sound but does have slight damage due to age and use. The top is faded and abraded and leather is peeling along edges, see photos.
