An English Chinese Chippendale style tall bamboo secretary from the 19th century, with slanted lift-top writing table, doors and drawers. Created in England during the 19th century, this bamboo secretary charms us with its slender proportions and exquisite Chinese Chippendale influence. The overhanging desk opens up to reveal a partitioned interior, perfect to organize letters and documents, or conceal a laptop. The upper section is topped with a pierced gallery accented with delicate finials, sitting above a central open shelf flanked by two doors. The lower section comprises of a lateral door and two drawers on the other side. The back is, of course, unfinished. The ensemble is raised on four legs, curving in the front and straight in the back. With its warm finish and elegant silhouette, this English Chinese Chippendale style tall secretary from the 19th century will bring a touch of exotic elegance to any home, placed in a bedroom, office or foyer.

Provenance: Sotheby’s NY. The secretary with a drop front in the form of three drawers but opening to drawers and cubby holes. With a black tooled writing surface. The stand with two frieze drawers, fine brass bales overall. Lacking a key. Raised on Chinese Chippendale style square legs with spandrels.

Condition: Please see detail photos. There are age-related scratches and dings with some finish loss on the top, the door does not close flush, the stand with stable age cracks on the sides, the front right leg with a lost spandrel inside edge, but overall good and presenting very well.

Stunning Hand Crafted English Chinese Chippendale Bamboo Secretary.

This handsome and special Secretary has two top facing doors and a Middle “cubby Hole” opening for Books, small decorative pieces, etc., The tilt top Desk has a Beautiful Wine colored Leather top, in great condition, which opens to hold papers, documents and writing supplies. On the left side is a cubby hole with door and to the right are two pull-out drawers.

The top has all hand carved finials and the decorative joints and legs also are all hand carved.

The piece is a compliment to an entry way, hallway, office, den, bedroom, or guest room – for that Out of Africa, Ralph Lauren chic environment.

There is a key included, The key is used for a pull or decorative purposes, however, the drawers and doors do not lock with the key.

The piece come in two pieces for easy moving.
