A very good looking and well made piece, the finish is 100% original and untouched, it looks every bit of its 100-120 years. I have never seen another with a Chinoiserie finish, usually they are very plain timber

In terms of the condition we have cleaned waxed and polished it from top to bottom, there will be age and use related patina marks here and there, normal cup rings and marks to the top, this piece has been used every day so shows it age well

Chinese Chippendale Tea Table

This exquisite English mahogany tea table is a stunning example of the elaborate Chinese Chippendale style. A study in symmetry and balance, this table combines the restrained elegance of the Georgian period with the intricate artistry of the Orientalist aesthetic. Elaborate fretwork on the frieze and pierced supports are beautifully matched throughout the legs. Small, decorative tables such as this represented the great influence that China had in European decorative and fine art beginning in the 1600s. To find an example in such exceptional condition is truly extraordinary.

Since the Restoration of the monarchy, there had been a growing interest in Chinese-style design forms in England. Called “chinoiserie” in French, this style had become extremely popular by the middle of the 18th century, the heyday of the Georgian style, on which designers such as Thomas Chippendale were quite willing to capitalize. By the mid-1750s, the Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens were sporting “Chinese Pavilions and Boxes” and several design books, including Chippendale’s The Gentleman and Cabinet Maker’s Director, which featured a number of Chinese designs.

A similar piece is illustrated in An Outline of Period Furniture by Katherine Morrison McClinton, p. 137.

Chinese Chippendale George III Style Burl Elmwood Dessert Occasional Table

The burl veneer pattern and patina of the burl elmwood on this table is fantastic!
A vintage Chinese Chippendale burled elmwood veneer occasional table. It has interesting features like at the base of the feet, there is a squared shape and the actual form of the top of the table has a squared shape.
It is American or European, mid/late 20th Century, according to our appraiser.
The square top with raised rim and canted corners, raised on angled molded legs with pierced fret returns and a box foot. It is unmarked. But it is the elmwood burl veneers that are the standout for this table that offers several uses.
It measures 26 inches tall, and 24 by 24 inches deep and wide.
