Games tables were highly fashionable at Versailles and the queen organised gambling evenings several times a week losing huge amounts of money. She had to ask for the king’s financial support which he usually offered happily, despite the royal ban on gaming! The Salon de la Paix was was located on the first floor of the chateau next to the queens bedchamber. This is an exceptional piece of art furniture, dating to the late 18th century its French with a walnut frame, hardwood backgammon table, hand dyed brown leather chess board leather top and finally a Royal Napoleonic blue baize card top. The royal blue baize came from the company that supplies the Royal household with their baize, they have the Royal Warrant. The table naturally extends as you can see, it also has two full sized drawers which run the complete length of the table Dimensions: Height 79cm Width 138cm extending to 180cm Depth 72.5cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point Condition Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description around condition Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of cracking creasing and wear, we recommend regular waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.
