Vintage Design
Kembo lounge chair by Willem Hendrik Gispen. Grey tube frame; new mottled brown leather upholstery (or is it leatherette, sorry I can’t tell), the back is fastened with a plethora of staples; restored dark tropical hardwood armrests; kembo, short for: kom eerst maar bij ons (come to us first) is the company WH Gispen started after being “retired” from the company that bears his name. They shifted into mass production very quickly and simultaneously switched from tubular steel frames to rod steel frames so those are the chairs you usually see. Dutch design!
