We are delighted to 1 of 6 lovely solid Yew hand sawn circa 1860 Windsor stick back armchair I have six of these in stock, one exact pair and then four others which all have slight subtle variations, as such I am listing them separately The antique Windsor chair is a country piece of antique furniture that usually comes with lovely charm and character. They were first seen in the late 16th century but were more common in the 18th and 19th century made from native woods condition such as oak, elm, fruit-woods and the rarest in Yew wood. There were a large number of tradesmen working in villages and towns making everything from coffins, cartwheels and even barrels but they had to diversify to ensure their survival so they started to make country pieces like the Windsor chair. They were often made to measure and this is why you see many similar in design but are different sizes. Their seats are beautifully figured, shaped in solid wood and are extremely comfortable due to the many years of use and wear. The out swept arms that were formed from steam bent pieces of wood giving a lovely curved shape, from the hundreds of years of use these arms become smooth and wonderful to feel. Some of the nicest examples also have steam bent crinoline stretchers. There is something wonderful about sitting on an antique Windsor chair that has been used for over 200 years, as they come with the rich patina, character and color that only develops with time and use These types of chairs always have old repairs, the frames will have moved usually around the stretchers, all of my chairs are fully checked, the frames are glued and clamped by the in house carpenter as required, they will be 100% solid stabile and ready to go This one is in Yew, you can tell its hand sawn by the cut lines to the underside of the base, the seat has a beautiful patina, it really is art furniture at its best Dimensions: Height 83cm Width 52.5cm Depth 56.5cm Seat height 43cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point. Condition: Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description around condition Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of cracking creasing and wear, we recommend regular waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.
