This very rare piece is circular in form and plain in design and displays a hinged cover engraved with a contemporary Seventeenth century Crest. The shaped hinge mouldings, and fastening catch, are decorated with scroll, bead and linear scratch engraved designs. Confits were preserved pieces of fruit in sugar, a very early form of confectionary. The only other similar confit box, which we have been able to find, was formerly contained within the Lion Collection of Boxes and is illustrated on page 38 of the catalogue.
