This most impressive Chinese circular silk needlework Is remarkable as it has been sewn with incredible skill. The front and back are identical in their detail and quality, unlike most examples that can only be viewed from their intended front with rough knots and workings on the reverse.
This fine colourful example is sewn on thin translucent silk and shows a pair of exotic cranes amongst peony flowers with fruit hanging from a tree branch above.
This fine piece of artwork was so highly regarded that it is mounted in an original equally exceptional carved and pierced rotating hardwood display stand which has a lovely mellow faded colour on one side and slightly darker on the other caused by being displayed to the natural sunlight.
This finely detailed stand has been made in sections with sliding pegged joints to assemble. This is a true sign of quality.
