Dutch Mid-Century Modern iconic sideboard or credenza model DU04 (2 doors, wide drawers) by Cees Braakman for manufacturer Pastoe. This is the most sought-after model, it is slightly smaller than the DU03 model, and has 2 larger doors (instead of 4 smaller doors) and wide drawers. The drawers have a rounded interior to prevent dust from building up in the corners, these are the so-called “anti-dust” drawers. These drawers are to be found in some other top-of-the-line series of furniture by Braakman as well; this type of drawer is one of Braakman distinctive signature features. Note the beautifully styled plastic inlay door and drawer handles; they are all still completely undamaged and intact; as often is not the case. The overall condition is exceptionally good; it is rare to find this piece at all, and even more in such a good condition. This specific model of the “Japanese Series” is said to be the most perfect mid-century case piece in terms of sizing and proportions. The overall design of this piece is very sleek, very elegant, minimalistic and functional; the black lacquered metal frame with the legs is beautifully placed underneath the piece; it makes it hover above the floor. This and the fact that it is perfectly proportioned, adds even more to the Japanese feel of this piece.
