Dramatic set of four grand English patio and garden dining armchairs crafted in the Chinese Chippendale taste. The chairs are surprisingly large and heavy constructed from iron featuring a trellis open fretwork back and pagoda top rail. Also known as cock pen chairs they have a generous seat fitted with a loose seat cushion in an English royal blue tone. The long flat arms measure 24.75 inches high. The chairs are solid and sturdy with excellent joinery and craftsmanship. The iron has been refinished in black giving the chairs a distinctive profile. Historic provenance from The J.J. Blick Lunkenheimer house Pasadena, CA. Sold as a set of four with cushions.
