Vintage Design <\/p>\n
Giancarlo Piretti was born in Bologna in 1940. After studying at the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Academy of Bologna, he began working as an interior designer for Anonima Castelli, designing furniture for both home and office use. During his twelve years at Castelli, Piretti obtained numerous industrial patents for his designs, which were dominated by chairs. Piretti’s work for Castelli has earned the company an international reputation in the field of furniture design. His most famous design is the folding plastic Plia Chair (1968). Other famous designs include the DCS 106 stacking chair (1965), Plona lounge chair (1969), Alky chair (1970), Plantone folding desk (1970), Plano (1971, IBD Gold Medal), Planto clothes hanger (1972), modular System 61 sofa system (1973), Xylon chair (1992, two G Mark Award 1994), and Torsion seat collection (1995-6, G Mark Award 1997). Currently, Piretti lives and works in Bologna with his son, designer Alessandro Piretti.<\/p>\n
