This antique lacquered stacking box set is unsigned, but presumed to have originated from China during the Early Republic period of approximately 1920 and done in a period Chinese Export style. The set is composed of a base and top and three interlocking containers or boxes, with tapered sides. The containers are composed of a softwood, with a deep black lacquered finish and hand crafted decoration. The front of the boxes are done with stylized gilt dragons with red accents and the sides also have gilt decoration with red accents. These stacking sets are sometimes referred to as lunch boxes, and were used initially for a lunch service with several dishes, and storage.<\/span><\/p>\n
